2. Major Tom

Major Tom’s “60s supper club” architecture and unhindered city and mountain views amaze guests from the minute they arrive, according to Brittany Thompson, the restaurant’s general manager, in an email to Dished.

The natural wood and marble materials, walnut modular built-ins, and brass bar, among many other mid-century design features, established the tone for their experience.

3. Nupo

Its location in Calgary’s East Village is the result of Chef Darren MacLean’s mother’s influence on her cooking. The restaurant chose to reflect these values not only in the food, but also in the name NUPO, which is derived from her nickname Nuponnen. She loves plants, vegan recipes, and appreciates fish and sushi.

This Japanese-style restaurant serves plant-forward, vegan cuisine with outstanding sushi, both fresh and maintained in its speciality, unique in Canada, dry ageing chamber. The décor is classic Alberta, with touches of birch, shale and charred woods.

4. Shokunin

5. River Café

In 1998, The River Café was awarded a Michelin star, which it has maintained ever since. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, April Bloomfield, Theo Randall, and Jamie Oliver are just a few of the famous chefs that mastered their skills at the restaurant.

The outdoor terrace at the River Café, a favourite for lovers, is guarded from the sun by cottonwood trees. 6. Ten Foot Henry

Aja Lapointe and Steve Smee, a husband-and-wife team, opened this restaurant in 2016. It combines a menu where the foods speak for themselves with a lightness of design—a windowless space that still manages to feel airy with its high ceilings, white walls, and lush plants. The vegetable-focused meals created by Chef Smee are never fussy. Instead, he gives ingredients a lift by adding subtle contrasts in flavour and texture, like jerk-spiced cauliflower and crunchy root chips.
